I am looking for information about John Franklin Pardue who married Melinda (Linnie) Katura Minnis in Madisonville, TN sometime in the late 1800s. He was postmaster there. He died when he was only 28. He was my great grandfather. I know very little about him or any of his ancestors. He was buried in the Madisonville Cememtery. His grave stone is a four sided tall pillar. He is memorialized on one of the four sides, his wife on another, and his son, who was only 14 when he died was on the other. My grandmother, Beulah Augusta Pardue was his daughter and only surviving child. I lived with her most of my growing up years.

Julia, you might wish to begin by checking the Tennessee Death Certificates posted on www.familysearch.org to see if there is a death certficate available for him. If so, it may well contain the names of his parents and from there you can begin to check the census records to see if you can establish a connection to each previous generation thru the census records. Census records were taken every 10 years from 1790 and many are available online at the above website www.familysearch.org

Let me know what you find out.

If you are new to genealogy, the same website also has free online lessons available to help you get started.

If you are able to trace back to about 1850, then I might be able to point you to further research. So let me know.
